Summer is slipping by so fast! I hope that everyone is having an enjoyable
time rejuvenating during this well deserved break. The WSCSS fall in-service
has always been a great time to gain new skills, knowledge and insights in
social studies education. It happens when everyday teachers and social
studies professionals step out into the spotlight and present on a topic
they know something about. It is your turn to present! You are being invited
(I wish it was a little more personal, but it is what it is...)

As you are sitting in the shade of a tree reading that book you have been so
eager to get into, at the back of your mind is that thought needling you...
"I wanted to present at the WSCSS Fall In-service this year. I need to get
that proposal done..." Now is the time to get your head around what you
would like to present. The proposal is a scant 50 words, it is more of a
sketch than a proposal. You can fill in the details after you submit it.

What would make a great presentation at the fall in-service you ask?

   - That great lesson that really grabs the student's attention and helps
them understand a topic in a deep way
   - An approach to teaching an aspect of social studies that you have found
   to be affective
   - A resource that is underused
   - A new way to use a resource that is commonly used
   - A discussion of an important social studies topic
   - A team teaching idea
   - A cross-disciplinary approach to the social studies
   - Writing ideas
   - Reading ideas
   - Anything to help out our elementary teachers
   - CBA resources and strategies
   - Innovative strategies
   - Breathing life back into the tried and true strategies.

I hope this gets you thinking of what you can do to make this a great
in-service for yourself and for your fellow social studies professionals.
Proposal forms can be found on www.wscss.org or

I look forward to getting your proposal soon!

Thanks,
