Reminder!
Washington State Library is hosting a brown bag presentation this coming
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 12:10 PM entitled, "Tracking Kurt Cobain
through Washington Vital Records."
Using Kurt Cobain's family as an example, our genealogy librarians
Kathryn Devine and Kim Smeenk will take you through the vital records
available in Washington State. Using birth, death, marriage, and divorce
records they will show you how they traced Kurt Cobain's family tree.
These same steps can be used to trace your family's ancestors. Family
history research has become an increasingly popular trend, and people
all over the country and around the world have been using Washington
State Library's collections of microfilmed newspapers, city directories,
and birth, death, and marriage indexes to find their ancestors.
Don't forget to join us on Wednesday on the second floor of the state
library for this presentation on the family roots of one of Washington's
most famous rock stars!

A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of
acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or, perhaps,
both. -- James Madison
