Facing the Future is now hiring an Assistant Program Director!
Facing the Future is a fast-growing national nonprofit organization based in
Seattle. Founded in 1995, Facing the Future brings global issues and
sustainability education to K-12 classrooms. We research and write global
issues and sustainability curriculum materials that meet national education
standards; provide professional development workshops for teachers on global
issues, sustainability, and service learning; and help schools integrate
global issues across their curricula. Facing the Future curriculum is in use
in 50 states and more than 60 countries by teachers and students in K-12
classrooms across multiple subject areas, including science, social studies,

DEFINITION:
Assistant Program Director is a full-time, professional, exempt staff
position reporting to the Program Director. Alongside the Program Director,
this person will direct and execute curriculum development, resulting in the
creation and production of hands-on, engaging, research-based global
sustainability curriculum materials. This person will also help set the
strategic direction of Facing the Future's curriculum development.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Work closely with Program Director to assist with development and
production of curriculum
* Research, write, and edit K-12 global sustainability curriculum
and related marketing materials
* Conduct needs assessments and market research to inform future
curriculum products and related organizational infrastructure
* Work closely and supervise interns and contractors on various
curriculum-related projects
* Manage relationships and tasks with graphic designers, printers,
and other production contacts
* Research and develop strategic partnerships with other
organizations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors degree in Education, International/Global Affairs,
Environmental Sustainability, or related field
* Strong interest in and commitment to education, global issues,
and sustainable development
* Knowledge of general education infrastructure and practices at
district, state, and national levels
* Excellent writing skills
* Strong verbal communication skills
* References indicating candidate has the initiative and ability
to research information useful for making future curriculum development
decisions
* References indicating candidate has the ability to work
independently, as well as part of a team
* References indicating candidate has the ability to handle
multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Experience writing and/or reviewing K-12 curriculum
* Knowledge of and experience working with K-12 learning and
teaching standards
* Experience working as a curriculum coordinator or department head
* Firm understanding of research-based pedagogical models, how
students learn, and effective strategies to engage students and aid their
learning
* Demonstrated experience completing a needs assessment, targeted
market research, or similar project resulting in guiding recommendations
* Experience working in an office setting
* Advanced degree in Education, International/Global Affairs,
Environmental Sustainability, or related field
* Teaching certificate, current or expired
* Basic knowledge and understanding of graphic design and production
* Ability to do small production tasks (using tools such as Adobe
Photoshop and InDesign)
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$38K-$42K, DOE. Benefits include medical and generous vacation and holiday
