Is respectful and rigorous public deliberation on Iraq possible? What
can teachers do to promote such a conversation in their classrooms? The
World Affairs Council and Washington State Capitol Forum invite you to a
forum that addresses this important and timely topic using the most
current curriculum from Brown University's Choices for the 21st Century
program. University of Washington College of Education Professor Dr.
Walter Parker will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Parker believes schools
can be a crucial site for rigorous discussion of important issues, and
his address will offer practical strategies for engaging students in the
deliberative process.
This exciting and educational evening will include a demonstration of a
deliberative discussion of the U.S. Role in Iraq by high school
students. Teachers will also participate in a deliberative discussion of
the policy options in Iraq using the Brown University Choices curriculum
"Conflict in Iraq: Confronting Policy Alternatives"
(http://www.choices.edu/resources/twtn_iraq.php) and be introduced to
Capitol Forum on America's Future
(http://internationaledwa.org/capitolforum/).
Presented by the World Affairs Council & Washington State Capitol Forum
(with funding from the World Affairs Council and the State Innovations
grant from Longview Foundation).
Join us for a special evening at a new venue - the newly renovated
Cleveland High School.
Registration deadline is October 1. The cost is $30 and includes
presentations, classroom resources, a light buffet, and three clock
