Dames Scholarships
Apply now for a Colonial Dames scholarship by downloading the application by

Any Teacher who teaches American history to Washington state students in
grades 5-12 is eligible to apply for one or more scholarships in the
following categories:
(1) Continuing education relating to American history including Advanced
Teacher Certification courses;
(2) American history or social studies curriculum development with books,
costumes, website design or videos;
(3) Travel and tuition to attend educational seminars relating to American
history, such as attendance at history workshops at the University of
Washington or other colleges; institutes and symposiums including the
Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute; the Plimoth Plantation in
Massachusetts workshop; the National History Day Summer Institute in
Jamestown; the National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American
History; the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History; the Ohio American
History Workshop; a course at Stratford Hall in Virginia on Revolutionary
Leaders; or other similar workshops or courses; and
(4) Teacher enrichment projects/programs relating to history.
Since 1998, the Colonial Dames have granted over $230,000 in scholarships to
Washington history teachers, many of whom have used their awards in support
of Washington State History Day. In 2007, scholarships were awarded to
teachers representing some 29 schools from across our state.
