Hello,
The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence
(www.abcte.org <http://www.abcte.org/> ) is seeking subject matter
experts to participate in the development of our world history and
geography teacher (grades 6 - 12) certification exams.
The American Board is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to
increasing the number of highly qualified teachers available to schools
around the country and is partially funded by a grant through the U.S.
Department of Education.
The American Board offers the Passport to Teaching certification - a
respected and efficient way for knowledgeable and motivated individuals
to become teachers. One element of this premiere teacher certification
program is a rigorous content area exam for potential teachers. To
develop these exams, the American Board relies on the knowledge of
subject matter experts. All meetings of subject matter expert panels are
held in Washington, DC and are typically two - three days in length.
Each participant receives a daily honorarium ($500) and the American
Board provides reimbursement for food, lodging and travel expenses.
The development of the American Board's world history and geography
certification exams will continue through the fall of 2007. If you are
interested in participating in this development process as a subject
matter expert, please forward your CV to Ryan Wilkes at
rwilkes at abcte.org <mailto:rwilkes at abcte.org> .
Expressing interest in participating in the development of this teacher
certification exam does not require a firm commitment. Rather, your name
and areas of expertise are entered into an internal database used when
inviting subject matter experts to attend exam development meetings
occurring every six - eight weeks.
This is a unique opportunity to change the lives of our nation's youth
by ensuring that they are taught by exceptional teachers. As a
contributor to the development of our exams, you will be helping place
individuals with demonstrated subject area mastery and professional
teaching knowledge into our nation's classrooms.
Again, if you are interested in participating in this development
process as a subject matter expert, please forward your resume or CV to
Ryan Wilkes at rwilkes at abcte.org <mailto:rwilkes at abcte.org> .
I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact me
at your convenience. We look forward to working with you!
