IEEIA (Investigating and Evaluating Environmental Issues and Actions) -sometimes called The Hungerford Curriculum-inspires Grade 5-12 educators to help young people think critically about controversial issues, consider their own values and beliefs, and identify ways they can take action on environmental issues they care about. The curriculum strengthens stewardship values, critical thinking, and research skills. The training will also enhance your ability to teach the Social Studies CBAs and plan service learning projects with your students.

Nov. 10 (Veteran’s Day, Fri.) and Nov. 11 (Sat) 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Woodland Park Zoo
Nov. 17 (Fri) 6 - 9 p.m. and Nov. 18 (Sat) 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Seattle Aquarium.
Cost is $60 which includes the text, though a grant from EPA. 3 university credits ($105) or 27 clock-hours ($45) available at additional charge.

The training focuses on environmental issues as an integrating theme, but can easily be adapted for teaching any contemporary/controversial issue. Can be used by formal or non-formal Gr. 5-12 educators.

Instructors are Bainbridge Island teachers Marie Marrs and Celine O’Leary, and Woodland Park Zoo evaluator, Kathryn Owen. To register, contact Kathryn.owen at zoo.org. For questions or a copy of the syllabus, contact
