The Washington State Council for the Social Studies is a nonprofit/volunteer organization led by Social Studies teachers throughout Washington State.

We aim to be the premier resource for connecting Washington's Social Studies educators to high quality professional development, developing professional relationships, and advocating for the advancement and funding of the Social Studies in Washington State.

Please explore what we have to offer. With us you can attend one of three conferences a year, get the latest information through our Facebook page, Twitter, or quarterly newsletter, share and download lessons with other Washington teachers, and get tips on how to advocate for Social Studies at the state and federal level. Welcome to your Washington State Social Studies Council!

Educator Resources

We have a growing library of educator resources including lesson plans which contain valuable information that is always worth revisiting.

Meet the Team

The Washington State Council for the Social Studies is made up of K-12 classroom teachers, college, and university faculty members, and curriculum designers and specialists that are passionate about social studies education. At the WSCSS, our goal is to support educators in strengthening and advocating for social studies.

Your Social Studies department just got a whole lot bigger!  The WSCSS has partnered with OSPI to build a statewide Professional Learning Community (PLC) for Social Studies teachers.

Share your blue ribbon lessons with teachers from across Washington! If you are looking for some new ideas for your classroom, download some lesson plans developed by the OSPI Social Studies Cadre and teachers from across the state.

If you can’t attend one of our three annual conferences, that doesn't mean you can't contribute to the Social Studies in Washington.

Consider sponsoring our Lesson Plans database with a yearly membership to the WSCSS!
